The Zulu tell a story about a cheetah who had her cubs stolen by a lazy hunter, intending to use them to aid in his hunting. The cheetah mother wept for a day and a night until a tribesman heard her. She told him her story. He, in turn, passed it on to the tribal elder, and the hunter was banished from the village for dishonourably wishing to use tools other than his personal strength and skill for hunting. The cubs were returned to their mother, but the tears had marked her face for life – and for all future generations.
